The sacred Hindu writings collectively known as the Vedas highlight the corrupting nature of blood sacrifice in religion. Calasso points out that ‘the futility of sacrifice was the ultimate sacred meaning that only someone who followed the whole story of the Mahabarata could grasp’[1].
